چکیده

Sunlight is an important cause of damage to plastics, textiles, paints, and other organic materials. Short wavelength ultraviolet light has long been recognized as being responsible for most of this damage2. Spectroradiometric measurements were made to quantify the wide variations in UV content of sunlight under the following conditions: direct summer sunlight, winter sunlight, sunlight filtered through ordinary window glass and sunlight filtered through automotive glass.

Effects of Wood Roughness, Light Pigments, and Water Repellent on the Color Stability of Painted Spruce Subjected to Natural and Accelerated Weathering

This study examined the color stability of painted Norway spruce (Picea abies) samples subjected to natural and accelerated weathering, using Duncan’s tests and correlation analyses. The following effects were studied: (1) the different initial roughness of the wood; (2) use of transparent or lightly-pigmented top-coat layers; and (3) the presence of the final water-repellent layer. Natural wea...

Effect of Artificial Weathering on the Properties of Industrial-Scale Thermally Modified Wood

Thermally modified wood is widely used in cladding, decking, and other construction projects that are meant for outdoor exposure. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the color, microstructure, and chemical composition of heat-treated, Larix spp. wood that was exposed to artificial weathering. In this study, accelerated weathering tests (UV and moisture) were conducted over a...

Methods for Assessing Degrading Effects of Uv Radiation on Materials

UV radiation is one of the key factors ageing materials and thus limiting their service life time. Damages induced by UV radiation may be observed as changes in the properties of the material. Various types of weathering experiments are used to study the chemical and physical mechanisms behind the degradation process. Material samples are exposed to UV radiation and other environmental stress a...

Ultraviolet weathering of WPCs Coextruded with a Clear Cap Layer

This study examined the effect coextruding a clear HDPE cap layer onto HDPE/wood-flour composites has on the discoloration of coextruded composites exposed to accelerated UV tests. Chroma meter, XPS, SEM, and UV vis measurements accounted for the analysis of discoloration and degree of oxidation of both uncapped (control) and coextruded composites before and after UV exposures. Two separate dis...
